Spotted at the 2016 Montrouge Salon, finalists of the 2016 HSBC Photography Prize, nominated the same year for the 2016 Emerige Revelations Scholarship, Johanna Benaïnous (1991) and Elsa Parra (1990) form a duo of visual artists, photographers and directors.
They met at the School of Visual Art in New York and received congratulations from the jury of the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2015. They were the artist guests at the Festival Circulation (s) 2017 and at the Festival Photo Saint-Germain 2017. They won the 2nd award at Picto de la Mode 2017, which allowed them to enter the collections of Palais Galliera (Fashion Museum of the City of Paris). In 2018, the FMAC (Municipal Contemporary Art Fund of the City of Paris) acquires all 88 portraits of the series A Couple of Them, 36 of them are exhibited on the booth of the FMAC at the FIAC 2018.
The MACVAL will show their works as part of the exhibition “Lines of Lives, a legendary exhibition”, from March 30 to August 25. Elsa & Johanna were finalists of the Hyères Festival 2019.
Their personal exhibition “ROSARIUM – C’est le soleil qui finira par nous perdre” will be held from February 21st to March 24th at the Espace Mains d’Oeuvres in St-Ouen.
